Magical Bonds: Understanding Familiars 

A familiar is an animal or spirit that assists witches and cunning folk in their practice of magic.

 There are essentially three types of familiars:

• the physical,
• the astral/spirit,
• the artificial.

The physical familiar can be any pet or animal you are connected to. They are often considered to be a companion and source of comfort for their human counterpart as well as being magickal allies.

 Cast an enchantment to persuade your dog to become your familiar.

It is important to note that not all animals are suitable as physical familiars. Some may be too independent or uninterested in magic, while others may not have the temperament for such close partnership.
