What Is Smudging, and Why Does It Matter?

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this smudging guide suitable for complete beginners?
A: Yes. This smudging guide for beginners is written to meet you exactly where you stand, with no prior ritual experience required to begin cleansing your space with confidence.
Q: What's the difference between sage smudging and Palo Santo smudging?
A: Sage smudging is traditionally used for deep clearing and purification, drawing out stagnant or negative energy, while Palo Santo smudging is often reached for afterward, to invite warmth, positivity, and renewal back into the space.
Q: How often should you cleanse with smudge?
A: Many practitioners cleanse with smudge during moments of transition — after conflict, before a new beginning, or simply when a space feels heavy. There is no fixed schedule. Let the space, and your own intuition, tell you when it's time.
