Each arrives on a separate night in the thirteen days before Christmas, leaving gifts for well-behaved children and mischief for everyone else. Their names reflect their individual natures: Stekkjastaur (Sheep-Cote Clod), Giljagaur (Gully Gawk), Stúfur (Stubby), and ten others, each one a distinct character drawn from centuries of oral tradition.
